First Rough Draft Mock-up for Editing.
I have been posting to my instagram account excerpts from Influence of Place, my first collection of poetry. Today I put together a mock up of what has been worked on up unto this point. And I find myself, joyfully, shouting randomly – “I have written a book!” And it is something that I am really proud of.
I thought that my first book would be a novel, which is still in progress or a collection of short stories that I am writing. But it was poetry that surfaced for me when I sat down to work. And who am I to ignore the muse.
This accomplishment is important to me because it was a dream that I have had for a long time. Writing here or there. Thinking about it. Unsure if I should try to do it seriously. I had an epiphany one day in 2017 – that if I were to die today I would regret not working to become a writer.
So I decided to go for it while working a full time job. Waking up at 4 am to write and write every day.
As I worked towards this dream the path started opening up for me to pursue my goal. In 2018 I just went for it.
Not being independently wealthy means that I cannot dilly dally. And I live the mantra, “if you want to be a writer then write.” 2018 was the year of, Ernestine Louise, the writer. And 2019 is the year to publish my work.
The work will soon be out in the world and in the hands of others. It will no longer be my baby or babies. I am looking forward to sharing it and hearing back from readers.
